The Dragon family is a small but very strong group of winged, fire-breathing, reptilian monsters.

Dragons spawn from level 3 mana blocks. They are at the top of the food chain, eating virtually anything in the dungeon. Rather than mutate conventionally, they regenerate in eggs using the mana and nutrients they consumed during their lifetime. This gives them a sort of "level" up system while granting them significant longevity overall.

All Dragons are equipped with a fire breath attack and melee attack, making them versatile fighters that can duel heroes from long- and short-range, as well as target either defensive stat. This, coupled with massive defensive stats themselves and high attacking stats, make them among the strongest minions in the game. Tried-and-true playthroughs centred around summoning the Shin Dragon are a common way of clearing the series easily.

DragonAttacked

However, the movement of Basic Breeds is limited to going left or right, severely limiting where they can attack. Furthermore, this leaves them vulnerable to vertical attacks, meaning that heroes can attack them completely uncontested and even defeat them without sustaining any damage. Worse still, they can take a while to actually position themselves due to how slow they are, and a hero may move to the left to continue attacking uncontested. Therefore, a dragon's movement is a serious liability to consider when spawning one over a runeborn monster instead. Careful dungeon management is necessary to be successful with them; long corridors that limit—or ideally, eliminate—situations where the dragon can be attacked vertically, or alternatively, continually spawning and culling mana-filled dragons to create large rooms with dragons on every level are ideal. In What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2 onwards, this is made up for by the family's Special Breeds—Long Dragons—which can move the head in all cardinal directions and stretch around the dungeon. However, they are still vulnerable to attacks around the body, and tend to open their assaults with slow fireball attacks.

Yu-Nama: The Puzzle and related[]

Dragons are the sole Level 5 purple monsters available in the puzzle games, and are among the most potent. They do not drop into the puzzle table naturally, only being brought in through linking Level 4 azure monsters. However, when linked, dragons will remove all non-monster tiles, including blocking blocks and level 0 soil, allowing for massive combos thereafter. Thus, keeping a dragon ready to be linked at any point is a common way of safely and quickly defeating heroes.

In No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!, the Hydra has the highest Attack, and because there are no abilities among dragons, it is strictly optimal to use it. Additionally, evolution between regular dragons was reworked; instead of diverting into either the Shadow Dragon or Shin Dragon depending on nutrient levels, the former now directly evolves into the latter.

In No Heroes Allowed! VR[]

Dragons are reworked in No Heroes Allowed! VR to fit its Real-Time Strategy gameplay, abandoning the left-right locked system and taking on a more conventional role.

Instead of outright starting with Nests like other monsters, Dragons begin in their Eggs, and hatch shortly after as babies. They then roam the board, eating everything in sight, before eventually growing into adults. As adults, they will fly around the map, breathing fire on heroes and their structures. They will eventually roost where they were born. However, they do not actively respond to Demonic Charges.
